Tim Walz, Governor of Minnesota, isn’t running for a third term. And honestly? I don’t blame him one bit. This is the guy who:

– Steered Minnesota through COVID with actual calm, competent leadership while national “leadership” was making fun of reporters for wearing masks and purposely downplaying it. I’ll always appreciate that little bit of local government competency that kept me holding on to hope that nightmare would ever end.
– Said, “Hey, maybe kids shouldn’t be hungry in one of the richest countries on Earth,” and then actually made sure kids in schools get fed.
– Turned budget chaos into budget surpluses and then committed the radical leftist crime of… investing it in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and regular people instead of shoveling more tax cuts to billionaires who name their boats.
– Legalized marijuana, and — wild concept here — didn’t just cash in politically, but also commuted non-violent marijuana offenses because maybe people shouldn’t have their lives ruined over a plant.

And for this, he became a lightning rod for every bully (terminally online rage addict) in the MAGA ecosystem.

Try, just for a second, to see it from his perspective. Your colleagues are literally getting shot. Another is murdered in their own home. Then the President of the United States — the person whose job is supposedly to calm the country — blasts conspiracy theories to millions of people implying you’re somehow responsible. Since you ran for vice president, mobs of fanatics have been going after your daughter. Imagine trying to do your job while a cult convinces itself daily that you are both a tyrant and somehow also weak and also secretly omnipotent and also personally responsible for every bad thing that happens within a 500-mile radius.

And then you’re expected to smile politely and “debate the issues” with people like the Pillow Guy, who is already promising to throw you in jail over nonsense cooked up in Facebook comment sections. You’re supposed to pretend we’re having a normal democratic contest while being buried in nonstop lies, smear campaigns, threats, doxxing, and bad-faith garbage — against opponents who might not even concede when they lose and who already tested out fake-elector cosplay like it was a rehearsal dinner.

At some point, the question stops being, “Why is he stepping down?” and becomes, “Why would any sane person stay?” How many capable, decent people are going to keep signing up for a job where you work your ass off to make life better for people and the reward is death threats, conspiracy theories, and a mob convinced you personally control the weather and people’s minds with contrails?

The outrage addicts even turned the new state flag into a grievance machine. Folks in rural Minnesota are flying the old one like freedom fighters in the Great Flag Uprising of 2025, and they will not stop complaining about the new one — because apparently nothing says “serious political thought” like losing your mind over graphic design.

So yeah — maybe he’s tired. Maybe he’s done doing this particular brand of political hazing ritual. And maybe the more terrifying truth is this: if this is how we treat the good ones, who in their right mind is going to want to do this fucking job anymore? Thanks for everything, Mr Walz. Go enjoy your life, while you somewhat still can.

And for all of the people out there with their completely phony outrage over fraud after voting en masse for the guy who defrauded his own charity, has 34 felonies for falsifying business records, and who’s flagship organization was found guilty of criminal tax fraud, REMEMBER:

T***p granted clemency to Lawrence Duran, who committed the largest Medicare fraud scheme in history, pilfering $205 million from the program (paragraph 6).

Outraged about that, too? Didn’t think so. Fake news, right…
