As per usual we’ve got the classic “I know you are but what am I” debate going on with one information bubble saying on thing and the other information bubble saying the other.
I think it’s important to look at who’s actually being unreasonable here. Are Republicans just trying to pass a straightforward funding bill that makes sure all programs keep going while Democrats block it for no reason? Or did Republicans leave things out or add things in that they know Democrats could never agree to—just so they can point fingers and blame them for a shutdown?
Republicans will say, “Well, they were given a clean resolution option that keeps the budget exactly the same and keeps the government open longer and they didn’t take it.” But what they won’t say is that this so-called “clean” resolution simply kicks the can down the road and avoids renewing programs so it isn’t really exactly a clean keep everything the same—to be specific, it is renewing the looming expiration of ACA subsidies that would cause premiums to skyrocket for millions of Americans that has been left out of the clean resolution. So no, it’s not as simple as “just a clean resolution.”
I’m sure Fox News and its knockoffs are pushing one version of the story, while the other corporate media outlets spin another, all to keep people angry and divided. But anyone willing to read beyond a headline or catchphrase can see pretty clearly what’s really going on here and I’m so tired of this bullshit.
