How Are Groypers So Successfully Escaping Blame For Charlie Kirk? Does the GOP Not Know Who They Are?

Reading Time: 2 minutes.

Most right wingers can’t process nuance. In their minds, you’re either a MAGA Republican or a Democrat, and everyone in those boxes agrees on everything in black & white terms. The idea of being anti-MAGA without being a Democrat just breaks their circuitry.

It’s like that King of the Hill moment.

Hank: “So, are you Chinese or Japanese?”

Kahn: “I live in California last 20 year, but first come from Laos.”

Hank: “Huh?”

Kahn: “Laos. We Laotian.”

Bill: “The ocean? What ocean?”

Kahn: “We are Laotian! From Laos, stupid! It’s a landlocked country in Southeast Asia. It’s between Vietnam and Thailand, okay? Population: 4.7 million.”

Hank: “So, are you Chinese or Japanese?”

So what’s a Groyper? A “Groyper” is a term for followers of a far-right, online movement associated with white nationalism and Christian nationalism, mostly in the U.S. The name comes from a meme of an overweight, smug-looking Pepe the Frog variant (often resting his chin on his hands) that became the group’s mascot. A leader of the movement is Nick Fuentes, a far-right political streamer.

They typically push anti-immigrant, antisemitic, homophobic, and ultranationalist views, often under the banner of “America First.” They are very anti-Israel, which puts them at odds with folks like Charlie Kirk and Donald T***p. Groypers confronted Kirk at some of his events.

The Kirk assassin is said to not be a T***p fan, but he’s also not a Democrat, he’s reportedly a Groyper.
