This story about the DOD wanting to cut all ties with Scouting actually makes my blood boil — and most of you can probably guess why, since Scouting is such a huge part of my family. These ghouls never fail to amaze me with how low they’ll sink just to sabotage the work a lot of good people do to educate kids and give them a better future.
Scouting is a program built to make kids into good people and good citizens. It still has all the patriotic, reverent pieces it’s always had — but man, it’s getting harder and harder to be proud when clowns like Pete Hegseth turn it into a culture-war punching bag. Trying to use an innocent youth program to make waves in the news that further radicalize and divide people.
The core values are still exactly what Baden-Powell laid out with Olave by his side: kindness, service, leadership, integrity — you know, the stuff actual adults care about. Not whatever fever-dream nonsense these demagogues are peddling while trying to weaponize a youth program chartered by Congress for generations, for crying out loud.
First of all, what the fuck is a “boy-friendly space”? Since when has Scouting ever been misogynistic, chauvinist, or about treating boys as some separate, fragile species? There is nothing a Boy Scout can’t or shouldn’t do in front of a Girl Scout. We’re not talking about private tents, bathrooms and changing rooms here. The program proves that the program is suitable for anyone anywhere, every single day, in every single pack and troop across the country with tons of great women volunteering and leading troops and spending countless hours on unpaid safety training that a lot of other organizations with youth abuse problems should be envious of.
This is the stupidest, laziest demagoguery I’ve ever seen. It’s bad enough I have grown adults coming up to me at popcorn fundraisers while I wear my leader uniform to try to argue with me about how Scouts is radical and woke which is the most ignorant thing I’ve ever heard. I had a guy actually shame a 7 year old girl standing there. What does this say about these supposedly make America great movements in America? How can people endorse this bullshit? These people have been radicalized by absolute ghouls — and it’s coming at the expense of thousands of dedicated families–Moms, Dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles…. who are all out here spending countless days and hours trying to build confidence, character, and community for kids in a safe, positive way but I guess that’s too “woke” for these modern day so-called “leaders” who don’t even care about character flaws like felonies and adultery and charity fraud and bribery and insurrection anymore.
Shameful stuff, Pete Hegseth. Truly shameful.
Hegseth’s claims Scouts is “no longer a meritocracy.”
Scouting America responded, badassly:
“This view is clearly uninformed. Badges and ranks are not given, they are earned. Just ask any Eagle Scout.”
I actually wrote this for Facebook, hesitantly because I don’t feel like that tool should be used for politics, but everyone else does so it feels right especially when it’s something that means a lot to you personally. But I hesitated because I felt like I was just feeding the outrage machine just like they want, and it’s not very kind or Scout-like to alienate anyone, but then Facebook took it down anyway for “abusive language.” Hilarious.
