All our snow had melted away and we were excited Spring arrived a little early. But some year we’ll learn that is a false spring, a big tease. Third winter came on Saturday and it came big. Predictions were for anywhere between 1 and 78 inches. We got about 10 here and the kind of winds that make trampoline owners anxious. Now on this Monday morning it’s sunny with blue skies, but the kids still get a snow day because it’s just a lot to get dug out of I guess.
This is all my fault, by the way. Because I haven’t fixed a cable on my snowblower yet. So the question is: do I just let this all melt over the 40 degree temps we’re going to get this week?
Well I know the weather is the most interesting thing so let me give you a few more paragraphs about it. Not!
We welcomed a new 1-year old pup to the household this week. Went through a rescue and figured it would take a long time so it felt ok to start the process right after losing our last pup, but it actually went really fast. She’s a german shepherd-lab mix, really friendly with people, you can already tell she is great at obedience and ready to be trained in a lot of ways, but still a puppy with lots of energy. The good news on all that is it’s going to get me off my butt and out walking a lot more.
I’ve been listening to
The newly released album A Pound of Feathers by one of my favorite all time bands The Black Crowes. Some argue it’s not the Black Crowes of the past because it doesn’t have the original band, just the Robinson brothers and the familiar Chris Robinson voice. I think the vibe is still there but it’s always going to be hard to top those albums. The new album is about a C+ maybe B- for me. I’m still deciding and have a review in the works. Around 4 songs really stand out.
I’ve started scrobbling my Spotify streams to last.fm and even scrobbling when I listen to vinyl records now, hoping for more unified analytics. Why do I care about these analytics? I really don’t know. But Spotify Wrapped and all the rage around that convinced me I’m not alone in my weirdness, at least.
I’ve been watching
Some college bball and the stock car races mostly. Trying to keep up with Indycar this year a bit also. Would be nice to know a little more once the Indy 500 comes along in no time. Didn’t have much tv tiThe Vegas race was mostly a snoozer until the end when it looked like we had a race between Hamlin and Elliott but it turned out Hamlin was handling his loose race car just fine.
I watched the first hour or so of the Oscars, Conan definitely had some great bits as host. I can definitely agree that One Battle After Another deserved Best Picture, it certainly was for me. DiCaprio delivered a great performance but Sean Penn was definitely the standout and deserves his Oscar. I already knew I need to watch Sinners, it’s been on my list. But now I think I really need to see Frankenstein.
Quote of the week
“I am honored to be the last human host of the Academy Awards.” –Conan O’Brien at the 2026 Academy Awards
