Ohio Players (2024)

Reading Time: 2 minutes.

5 out of 5 stars.

The Black Keys dropped Ohio Players back in April, and it has completely dominated my 2024 soundtrack. From the first listen, I was hooked—the vibe is undeniably infectious. The album transports me to a particular place, and for some reason, I keep picturing a small-town bowling alley, maybe even straight out of The Big Lebowski—a movie that’s always had a special place in my heart. There’s something about the retro, bluesy energy of this album that just feels timeless, like it belongs in a vinyl jukebox in a dive bar somewhere, yet it still sounds fresh and new.

Every track on Ohio Players is a hit for me, with that classic Black Keys blend of gritty guitar riffs, raw vocals, and infectious rhythms. It’s got this vintage rock-and-roll soul that taps into nostalgia while still delivering something undeniably modern. I can’t get enough of it.

It’s rare to find an album where you don’t feel the urge to skip a single song, but Ohio Players pulls that off effortlessly. I’ve had these tracks stuck in my head for months, and I’m not complaining. This is one of those albums you can throw on repeat and still find something new to appreciate with each listen. Start to finish, it’s an absolute gem.

For me, this is hands down the best album The Black Keys have ever put out, and that’s saying a lot considering their incredible discography. It’s an easy 5/5. If you haven’t listened to Ohio Players yet, you’re missing out on what is probably the album of the year.
