Some people think 2 week notices aren’t necessary any more because companies don’t care. It’s not about whether the corporation gives a shit…it’s about the people you work directly with. Most people do it to be respectful toward the people they work with, to not burn bridges. Leave a group of people with all your responsibilities and having to figure out your processes and assets without any help and don’t count on a future reference from them. Many of us do indeed build positive working relationships in our careers, so even if we don’t like the company and plan to move on, there’s still good reason to leave graciously. Hating a company isn’t the only reason for leaving either, sometimes we leave to promote ourselves. But seriously, don’t burn bridges to stick it to some corporation that as you say doesn’t give a shit. I’ve gone to work again with former colleagues at other companies later on and it’s been helpful to have that network to open up opportunities.
