A curmudgeonly instructor at a New England school remains on campus during Christmas break. He soon forms an unlikely bond with a brainy but damaged troublemaker, and with the school’s cook, a woman who just lost a son in the Vietnam War.

The Holdovers (2023) is pretty great, and Paul Giamatti delivers another fantastic performance, reaffirming why he’s one of my favorite actors. The movie is unexpectedly funny, weaving in humor that feels both sharp and natural without ever overshadowing its more heartfelt moments. The story, centered around an unlikely group of people thrown together by circumstance, showcases how meaningful connections can form in the most unexpected places.

The Holdovers is a wonderful example of how bonds can be forged despite differences, making it not only an enjoyable watch but also a surprisingly moving experience. Highly recommend. It has a great holiday vibe as well.

Hardy, I have known you since you were a boy, so I think I have the requisite experience and insight to aver that you are and always have been penis cancer in human form.
