The other night, I was desperate for a comedy,
so I decided to give this one a shot. It’s set at a high school reunion (class of 2001, which I happen to be a member of)—because nothing says “fresh” like revisiting teenage trauma. The first act manages to pull together a quirky, diverse group of characters, each trying way too hard to be memorable. The middle act teases you with a decent mystery, but it can’t resist shoving red herrings in your face, only to smugly pull the rug out from under you. The big reveal at the end is kinda fun, but the film’s pacing is all over the place, like it couldn’t decide if it wanted to sprint or crawl.
It gets a few mild laughs, and I didn’t end up hating the movie, I guess I enjoyed it. “Reunion” is fine for a one-time view, but it doesn’t have the wit, depth, or staying power to make you want to come back for a rewatch.
